Nekketsu Oyako

"Nekketsu Oyako", tradotto approssimativamente come "Hot Blooded Family" e noto anche col titolo "Thermal Blood: Parent and Child", è un oscuro beat'em up della Technosoft, una famosa software house nota soprattutto per aver dato i natali a “Thunder Force”: una celebre serie di “shoot'em up” multiformato. This charming fighting was one of the first titles made for the first Playstation and then, after almost a year, has seen the light of an adaptation for Saturn, the unfortunate 32-bit Sega. Both versions are mostly identical, although presenting small differences do not affect in any way the actual value of each adaptation. The story unfolds in a not too distant future, in a Japan subjugated to the interests of a few mega -corporations. One of these, the "Big Black Corporation, upon specific order of" Mr. Herograw "the bad guy, kidnaps the wife of" Rando ", the mother of the little" Rio "and the adolescent "Tora". Come da tradizione, i nemici ci vengono proposti ad ondate ed una volta sgominata una squadra di energumeni we will be given the opportunity to move on, everything, of course, within a certain time limit. Many of these fools need more shots to be permanently deleted and tend to rise until we clear all the energy that sustains them. At the end of each "stage", do not miss a duel against a powerful boss to kill. During the many "fights" we use too many weapons scattered around the scenario: rifles, machine guns, grenades, boomerangs and throwing knives, as well as collect all the food and drink to replenish our supply of energy.

Many details of the background, such as: the signs, distributors, barrels, wooden crates, barrels and even cars can be smashed to pieces in order to obtain weapons, food and bonuses. The levels are divided into a series of scenarios that go beyond the classical setting of an urban economy, there will, in fact, of pleasant diversion in a huge whale, and even a wagon dell'ottovolante! The enemies are no different, in addition to having to fight with boxer masked thugs, punks and thugs on skates of any kind and size, we will also have the pleasure to "beat" her going octopus "glove" and strange blob "Acquiformi. The game allows us to select three characters, each with a unique fighting technique and a different level of strength, speed and general ability. "Rando", the father, is the classic brute force rather slow which is its raison d'etre, "Rio", the favorite daughter, is the most agile of the group and fights wielding a hammer. Tora, finally, is the first born: the classic "figaccione" tamarro fixed with martial arts. I see the use of a control system with three buttons: attack, jump and special move. The attacks are mainly based on a series of combo punches and kicks on focus, at least for the two boys, and, using some combination with the directional buttons, you can also launch shoulders, knees and flying kicks. Of course, no shortage of outlets as well as the ability to fling away their opponents. Each character has, then, a different special move that has the effect of a classic "smart bomb". "Nekketsu Oyak" is divided into five levels, each with two or more acts, is definitely not a game too difficult, although it offers the ability to set four different difficulty levels and the number of lives available to us. To all this, add, moreover, an excellent two-player mode.

Technically, both versions are pretty good and give a large display capacity "two-dimensional" for both consoles. The graphic style reminiscent of the masterpieces of the genre and, in addition to presenting a good level of detail also makes good use of color capabilities of each system, especially the Saturn version. The scrolling background is smooth and the characters have rather generous size, as well as, indeed, the animations for the most part treated. During the action we witness a series of graphic effects rather than appealing: the scaling of the backgrounds, the rotation of sprite and a nice depth effect due to the different layers of parallax. The Playstation version shows off also the transparencies, which are absent in the counterpart Sega. As mentioned above, there are, then, small differences: the version for the Sega Saturn compensates for the lack of transparency mentioned above with the addition of some new details. In the second level, for example, the effect was throbbing limbs of the whale has been replaced with a scroll-like perspective "Street Fighter II " which, together adding a further layer graph, makes it perfectly the idea of be to cross the chest of a huge marine mammal. The fish that pass before us in the second act of that jump out of the water level, as well as the background of the section on the wagon offers more details and a better performance of the clouds. The sub-audio is a little sacrificed on the "PSX", the soundtrack, in fact, is played with only the audio processor. The adjustment for the Saturn, in contrast, provides a wonderful soundtrack played directly from CD. The sound effects are valid for both versions, although the PSX version offers a more pleasing effect of reverberation in a closed environment, completely absent from the other in return for the Sega Saturn. For the rest, "Oyak Nekketsu" is a delightful fighter that will entertain fans of the genre. Links: Download Nekketsu

NB: The archive downloads for the Playstation version contains two different iso: an original Japanese and one translated into English. The game works with the emulator epsxe here in full with a lot of bios and various plug-ins.
